Tuned.mobi

Tuned.mobiI think I found this while browsing on Howard Forums. This is a very cool website. It has a complete listing of all radio stations that you can stream on your phone. The quality is surprisingly good too. Some of the sites support mp3 feeds, some wma, and some both. I tested it from both my Blackjack and Treo 680 and it worked great.

I tested out a couple of radio station in the Chicago area for a few minutes and there was no lag and no breakups. The Blackjack has 3G which is pretty fast (see my speedtest). The Treo 680 uses edge, and still the connection was great.

Check it out from your phone: Tuned.mobi.

Phones, phones, everywhere…

From left to right…

Audiovox SMT 5600, Palm Treo 650, Blackberry 7100g, Siemens SX 66, Cingular 8125, Palm Treo 680, Samsung Blackjack.

My current faves are definitely the Blackjack and the Cingular 8125. The Palm OS needs to catch up in my opinion.

More reviews to come. :)

Download of the Day…

I came across this one day and I have been snagging programs each day when I remember. They have some pretty great stuff available for free. Most of the programs would be $29 to purchase, but each day they showcase a different piece of software as a free download for one day only.

Check it out.

Another LittleTechGirl

For quite a while now I have noticed on the web that there is another LittleTechGirl. Let me first say that I ‘became’ LittleTechGirl in around 2000 I think. I registered my domain in 2002, and I am glad that I did. I have just decided to grab up all the matching domains (.net,.us,.info,.org, and .biz) also before “she” tries to take them.

If you see posts on the web about gaming, etc. that is most likely not me!

It doesn’t bother me at all, but I am concerned about the confusion factor if someone is actually trying to look me up.

Samsung Blackjack (Cingular)

Blackjack - aloneSo begins my review of this cool little phone, errr excuse me smartphone. ;)

Part of my ‘real job’ allows me the chance to play with and review smartphones. Why? Usually because I am testing to make sure that they work with our Oracle Calendar system for wireless syncing via SyncML, or IMAP email and stuff like that. Of course it’s a perk that I get to play with all these cool phones. :) I already mentioned all the ones that I have, and I knew that this one was on the way, but I could not mention it in the previous post because I was keeping a secret from my hubby. LOL. My job bought me one, but I bought him one for Christmas. He usually gets my hand me down phones, or some sucky little phone. This is the first time in quite a while that he gets a super cool new phone all to himself.

Both phone arrived today and I have began playing with them. My first thought when I took them out of the box was “whoa, cool!”. This is a really slick looking phone. it is extremely thin and light and feels good in my hand.

Me holding the phoneThe screen is amazing! It is extremely clear and bright although half the size that I have been used to on the 8125. It is also a tad smaller than the Treo 650, but the looks blow it away.

More coming as I start to use the device.

Poor little Fishy…

Black MoorI have the worst luck with pet fish. We have had several! The latest fish to go was a cute/ugly little Black Moor with bug eyes. He was in the tank with 2 other fancy fish, and they were all doing so well, or so I thought. Before going to bed the other night, I went to feed them and noticed the black fish was completely missing one eye! I suspect that the bigger fish attacked him because he seems aggressive towards the smaller ones.

I think perhaps the little one was sick and may have been too small to be in that particular tank with those larger fish. The nitrate level, etc. might have been too much so he was not well, and the fat fish took advantage of him. Poor fishy. :(

I was not sure what to do, so I read up yesterday, hit the pet store after work and got Melafix and water testing strips. I asked if I should move the sick fish to his own tank, etc. and I was told that the move might be too stressful, so I left him and medicated the whole tank.

Well, he did not make it. I found him floating this morning. :(

I am not sure what I will tell the kids yet. We have already gone through a few different fish (Betta’s).

Gallery mod_rewrites

I have just enabled these. What are they? Using mod_rewrite gives your links a cleaner URL that makes more sense to viewers.

Before configuring mod_rewrite a link would be similar to: http://www.kristilecain.com/wordpress/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=3300

Looking at that link, there is no clue what the picture is, or even which album it’s in. You may want to have a way to keep better track of links if you are using them in email, forum posts, or blog entries.

After the link looks like this: http://www.kristilecain.com/wordpress/gallery2/v/NewHomePlans_etc/knollwood2-smaller.jpg.html

Getting mod_rewrites to work correctly can be tricky. There is a page here that lists a bit of info on the subject.

Apparently the Gallery admin tool to configure mod_rewrite is not very smart. There is a bug that sometimes does not correctly detect that mod_rewrite is installed correctly and running. If this happens to you, and you KNOW that your installation is installed correctly, you can override the testing agent.

Once the module is installed, you will have to configure it. If configuration fails, edit the 2 files that are listed (.htaccess) and put them in place. Chmod both files to 666. Then, check the box for BOTH tests and Save. This will allow you to activate the module, and rewrites may indeed work.

This works for me on this site, but on another site trying this approach did not work out. I am still looking for a solution to that one.

Cell Phones/Smart Phones

I think I have already mentioned that I am a gadget junkie. And lucky me, my job allows me to play with gadgets, lots of gadgets. Cellphones, or should I say smart phones us ab addiction. I have used a Nokia 3650, Nokia 6820, Audivox SMT 5600, Palm Treo 650, Blackberry 7100g, Siemens SX66, and currently a Cingular 8125. I still have all of these units here in my drawer at work, and when the situation calls for it, I switch up.

Since I play with these phones quite a bit, I learn the ends and outs of them, and how-to’s. So yes, I will start including some write ups as I learn new things on my phones.
