Blackjack gone crazy

So a few days ago, I decided to install Agile Messenger on my Blackjack. I had used it on a couple of other phones without much issue. The install went fine, and I was able to connect to Yahoo! As soon as I attempted to connect to GTalk, all hell broke loose. My phone completely froze and clicking buttons, etc. did nothing. I could not turn it off, so I had to snatch the battery. I put it back and it came back up ok.

Of course I’m a tech at heart, so I wanted to figure out why that did not work. So I tried it again. The same result, except this time when I put the battery back, the phone did NOT come back ok. The start menu did not work (it was blank), the background was changed back to default, and worst of all, all the icons were changed to the Windows “missing shortcut” icon. I played with it for a bit and powering it off and on did no good. So, I had to hard reset it.

To hard reset your Blackjack, turn if off, then hold down the up arrow, while turning it back it. It will ask if you are sure that you want to format it, click up again to give it a go.

After my first reset, things seemed ok. I setup my mail again (Exchange via Activesync) and installed a couple of my other usual things. Suddenly, I was out of space! This was unreal since I had not done that much. I then removed all non-essential things, and it was not helping. I checked the storage usage and there was  0mb available. To check your space, go to Start–>Settings–>About.

Well, I was never able to figure out what was using all of the space. It was very strange, so I reset it again. This time, all is going very well and all space was recovered. I am NOT going to use Agile Messenger again, at least not for Google Talk!

Site upgrade in progress…

I am biting the bullet and upgrading my site to Wordpress 2.1. Hopefully things will go well. I have ti disable all plugins, so all the usually pretty *fancy* stuff that you see, will not work for a while.

In any case, upgrade now!

Blackjack battery improvement

Well, I posted before about my Blackjack having a horrible battery and that I suspected it was because I constantly using Microsoft Push. Well, duhh… I never changed the setting. I had it set to get mail “As new items arrive” in both peak and off peak times. This is not because I actually needed my maill ALL the time, but when I set it up quickly to test, I just did that to make sure that it was working and I never changed it.

Well, on Friday I finally changed that setting and wow! what a difference. I changed it to sync mail only Monday through Friday 8 am to 6 pm. Previously, my battery would last only 24 hours if I was lucky. Now, it made it 3 days! I did not have to charge it again until I got to work today. Awesome!!

I may still look into getting that extended battery, but just changing that setting has made a world of difference.

Basically, data = power. If you are using a lot of data, you will burn a lot of power.

Technorati

Well, I signed up on Technorati which is basically a huge database of blogs. You can search them, view the author’s profiles, etc.

There seems to be a bug in their “blog claim system”. I put in the URL for my blog (www.littletechgirl.gom), and the spiders go out and search it. It then prompts you with 3 ways to claim it. The first Quick Claim, asks you for your blog’s username and password to verify that it is indeed your blog. I tried to use this method and it attempted to log me into Wordpress.com, hmmm… Yes, this is a Wordpress blog (the software), but it is NOT on Wordpress.com. Their spiders must detect the word “Wordpress” in the code somewhere and assume.

So, now I am trying to claim my blog using the post method. Here is my Technorati Profile. [BLOG CLAIMED SO LINK IS NOW BROKEN]

iPhone

So announced today’s at Apple’s Keynote is the upcoming release of the Apple iPhone.

I must admit, this thing looks sweet!

Here are the specs:

- It’s a full featured WIDESCREEN iPod. So, if you thought watching movies on your iPod was cool, imagine them on a wider screen. Plus, you can listen to music, sync music from your computer, and listen to audiobooks.

- It is a completely new concept phone. All the features are there, but improved. You can create a favorites list, make calls from contacts, or recent call lists all by using your finger. (sure, you can you use finger on Treo’s and Pocket PC devices too).

- Internet browsing on this looks great. It includes a mobile version of Safari (hopefully not as slow as the real Safari), and according to Apple, desktop quality email.

- 2 megapixel camera

That is just the beginning.

I read elsewhere that this device will use EDGE. I am surprised that it is not 3G. Maybe they will change that by the time it is officially released. 3G would really be nice for browsing on a screen like that.

I think I saw that there will be a 4gb and 8gb version priced between $499 and $599, but don’t quote me!

It will be interesting to see, that is for sure.

My budding photographers

6787

For Christmas, my twin girls got Fisher Price Digital Camera’s (remember my old post about having a hard time finding them). I was finally able to find them on Ebay and they have been loving them.

Each one took over 200 pics in only 2 or 3 days. Well, I have decided that they will have their own gallery area on the site. :) I uploaded all the pics (after carefully checking to make sure they were all PG - LOL).

The world through the eyes of a child…

Enjoy!

Blackjack battery life

I am extremely unimpressed with the battery life of my Blackjack. I have seen other complaints about it on the web, but this is ridiculous. My battery does not even seem to last any longer than 24 hours some days. I *suspect* that it is because I have mine set up to use Always Up to Date (MS Push). My hubby has the same phone and his seems to do much better. But, even if I disable those settings, the battery runs out very quickly. I think I am going to call my Cingular rep and see what they have to say about it.
